Autistic Boy Only Uses An Obsolete Cup, The Factory’s Solution Deserves A Medal.
Autism is a complex disorder. A child with autism can have difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
Ben Carter is an extremely autistic 14-year-old boy from Devon, United Kingdom. Ben has drank from the same Tommee Tippee Sippy Cup ever since he was two years old. His cup, however, has recently began falling apart. This wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for the fact that the company had stopped manufacturing this particular product many years ago. But this was only a bump in the road for Ben's father, Marc.
Marc started an online campaign that got Tommee Tippee to agree to make not just one or two cups for his son, but 500 of the discontinued little cups!
Here it is, the cup that Ben's been drinking out of since he was two years old. Due to his severe autism, he refuses to drink from anything else.
Because Ben has been drinking out of the same cup for years, it slowly began falling apart. He has even gone to the hospital for dehydration because he really won't drink from any other cup.
Unfortunately the company that made the cup had discontinue the particular line of cups many years ago. Because of this, Ben's dad, Marc, launched his online campaign and turned to the Internet for help.
In no time, Marc's tweet about his son's situation was retweeted over 19,000 times by people worldwide.
The company that made the cup, Tommee Tippee, was quick to notice the campaign and quickly joined the cause.
Tommee Tippee's employees went on a search for the original mould used to make the infamous sippy cup in multiple factories.
It was a tedious search but when the eventually found it, they agreed to make 500 brand new sippy cups for Ben!
“It’s a shock, and a surprise, and just a bit bizarre really that they’ve managed to do this,” said Marc. “I can’t stop smiling.”
